Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) are the yogic practice of greeting the sun each morning as part of Sadhana.
There are twelve movements to each cycle of salutation, usually done in twelve cycles, followed by Shavasana and meditation.
1. Standing prayer pose as you exhale
2. Arms raise over the head, keeping palms pressed together as you inhale
3. Bend at the waist and place your palms on floor as you exhale
4. Keeping the palms on the floor, bend the left knee and step back with the right foot as you inhale
5. Exhale as you place the left foot back
6. Hold the breath as you bend the knees and lower the chest to the floor
7. Inhale as you push up into Cobra pose, lifting the heart, keeping the hips on the floor
8. Exhale into Downward Facing Dog
9. Step forward with the right leg, keep the left foot behind as you inhale
10. Bend at the waist place you palms on the floor, nose close to the knees and exhale (see: 3)
11. Arms raise over the head, keeping palms pressed together as you inhale
12. Standing prayer pose as you exhale
